- first name + last name, Miss, Mrs, or Mr
This style of address is occasionally used. In The Limits of Love, by Frederic Raphael, occurs: ‘The voice on the telephone said: “Mr Colin Adler? My name’s Cox.”’ In Brothers in Law, by Henry Cecil, a judge in court addresses a barrister as ‘Mistah Andrew Pain’, the ‘Mistah’ reflecting a North Country bias’. as the author puts it. The same judge uses ‘Mistah Cruft’ to a younger barrister who is present in court. He may be using the fuller form of the name to the senior member of the Bar as a personal acknowledgement of that seniority. In Girl with Green Eyes, by Edna O’Brien, the heroine is twice addressed in full as ‘Miss Caithleen Brady’. Both speakers who use this form are Irish men, in circumstances that are intimate rather than formal. No reason is mentioned in context for the use of this form of address. which may be a feature of Irish speech.
